We are having an increasing amount of infestation of fall web worm this late summer and have been treating trees in the common areas to prevent the spread of this pest and to keep the unsightly webs from taking over our trees.   

The webs of these larvae look somewhat like cotton candy at the tips of the limbs and it will really look bad as these little chewers have a feast on the leaves. Most common host trees are persimmon, sweet gum, pecan, hickory and birch.  They have also been seen it lately in sycamore.  

There is also another chewing worm that is in several of the other species of trees.

If you have an infestation in your own trees, there is an injection that can be made into the trees to eliminate the problem and to help prevent the spread into other areas.   The chemical is called Bidrin and it costs about $15.00 per unit.  (One unit goes around the base of the tree about every “handspan.”  Count the handspans at the flare near the ground and multiply by 15;  that will be the approx. cost.)

Serious injuries are likely in the event of a collision or roll-over. There have already been several near collisions involving golf carts which are being driven on the street. The majority of these incidents has involved unsupervised children who are driving agressively, often on the wrong side of the street.

As a Reminder…

On non-collection days, containers should be stored in such a manner so as that they cannot be seen from adjacent and surrounding properties. Please keep containers out of sight on non-collection days.

• The guard house will be manned from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Entrance will be by mag card access only from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Anyone without a mag card will need to enter at the front gate.
• Guests should use the main guard house for entry as software is not yet available at the rear gate that would allow guests to be checked in.

Grass trimmings, leaves, and other debris clog the drains. This can, and has in the past, caused street flooding, possible damage to yards, and added expense on the Association when the drains have to be cleaned out.

Please make any contractors you use aware of this as well.

These speed humps are 20 feet deep so they have gradual rise and fall. They will help us to slow down the speeding traffic without causing cars to bottom out if they have slowed as they approach.

We ask that all residents and their guests observe the 30 mph speed limit and all stop signs on SRPA property so that additional speed humps will not be necessary.
